Vitall Cortisol (Stress) Home Test Kit is a home blood test that measures cortisol from a finger-prick sample.

Cortisol follows a daily rhythm, with levels typically highest in the morning. For this test, collect your sample between 6am and 10am following the instructions supplied with the kit.

Your sample is returned for analysis at a medically led, UKAS-accredited laboratory. Results are provided digitally and show your measured cortisol level together with explanatory information.

Cortisol can vary with time of day, illness, sleep, pregnancy, medication and other factors, so an isolated result may need to be interpreted alongside your wider clinical context.

This is a diagnostic home blood test kit. It supplies sample-collection materials for laboratory analysis and is not a treatment product. If your result is outside the expected range, or you have ongoing symptoms or health concerns, discuss the result with a GP or other qualified healthcare professional.

Collect your finger-prick blood sample between 6am and 10am, when cortisol levels are naturally at their highest. Follow the step-by-step instructions supplied with your kit, collect the required sample and seal it securely.

Return your sample using the prepaid tracked packaging provided. Avoid collecting or posting your sample on a Friday or over the weekend, as transport delays may affect processing. Once analysed, your results will be available securely online.

What does the Cortisol Stress Test measure?

The test measures cortisol, a hormone produced by your adrenal glands that plays an important role in the body’s response to stress, metabolism, blood pressure, inflammation and immune function.

Why does the test need to be taken in the morning?

Cortisol follows a natural daily rhythm and is usually highest in the morning. Vitall therefore requires your sample to be collected between 6am and 10am so your result can be interpreted in the correct context.

How do I collect my sample?

The standard home kit uses a simple finger-prick blood sample. Everything required for collection is supplied with the kit, along with step-by-step instructions and prepaid return packaging.

How quickly will I receive my results?

Results are usually available securely online within 24 hours of your sample reaching the laboratory, although turnaround times can occasionally vary.

What can affect my cortisol level?

Cortisol can be influenced by physical or emotional stress, illness, exercise, sleep patterns, pregnancy and certain medicines. This is why your result should always be considered alongside your symptoms, medical history and circumstances.

Can this test diagnose Cushing’s syndrome or Addison’s disease?

No. An abnormal cortisol result can indicate that further investigation may be appropriate, but a single cortisol measurement cannot confirm conditions such as Cushing’s syndrome or Addison’s disease. Additional clinical testing may be required.

What happens if my cortisol result is outside the expected range?

Your online report will show how your result compares with the laboratory reference range and provide an explanation of the result. If your cortisol level is outside the expected range or you have concerning symptoms, discuss the result with your GP or another qualified healthcare professional.

Where is my sample analysed?

Your blood sample is analysed in a medically led, UKAS-accredited laboratory using professional laboratory testing equipment and clinical oversight.
