Description
The Aevum Starter Pacing Planner is a 60-day structured planner created specifically for people living with ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, POTS and other energy-limiting chronic conditions. Rather than encouraging you to squeeze more into each day, it helps you understand what your body can realistically sustain, identify patterns between activity and symptoms, and begin building a more manageable routine around your individual capacity.
The planner introduces Aevum's Load Management approach through tools including Baseline Mapping, the 50% Rule, 48-Hour Echo tracking, an Analytics Lab and a Hard Reset Protocol. You can define your own Green, Yellow and Red states, record physical and cognitive demands, look back for delayed symptom responses and identify environmental or lifestyle factors that may be contributing to difficult days. Once you have established your baseline, the Aevum Maintenance Pacing Planner provides a streamlined 90-day format for continuing the process.
Pacing and energy management are recognised approaches within chronic-illness self-management, and NICE specifically recommends personalised energy management for ME/CFS that stays within the individual's fluctuating energy limits rather than encouraging people to push through symptoms. Aevum's specific tools, including the 50% Rule, are its own planning framework rather than clinical treatment protocols. The planner is an organisational self-management aid and does not replace medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

How it works
Begin with the Baseline Mapping exercises to identify what Green, Yellow and Red days look like for you and establish a realistic picture of your current capacity.
Use the daily pages to plan activity within that capacity rather than automatically filling every available space. Record relevant symptoms, activity and other factors so you can look back for patterns.
Use the planner's 48-Hour Echo to consider whether symptom changes may relate to activity over the previous two days. Post-exertional malaise in ME/CFS can be delayed rather than appearing immediately after exertion.
Review your entries regularly using the Analytics Lab and weekly reflection pages. If you enter a significant flare or crash, the Hard Reset Protocol provides a pre-planned framework to refer back to when making decisions feels more difficult.
The 50% Rule is part of Aevum's own pacing framework rather than a universal medical recommendation. Adapt all pacing strategies to your circumstances and any advice given by your healthcare team.

FAQs
Who is the Aevum Starter Planner designed for?
It was created for people managing ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, POTS and other chronic conditions where energy, symptoms and day-to-day capacity can fluctuate. It may be particularly useful if conventional productivity planners feel unrealistic or encourage you to overcommit.
What is pacing?
Pacing involves managing activity and rest to work within your current capacity rather than repeatedly doing too much and then needing prolonged recovery. For ME/CFS, NICE describes energy management as a flexible, personalised strategy that considers physical, cognitive, emotional and social demands as well as rest.
What is Baseline Mapping?
Aevum's Baseline Mapping system helps you define your own Green (Steady), Yellow (Caution) and Red (Flare) states. The aim is to make it easier to recognise your current capacity and adjust your plans accordingly.
What is the 48-Hour Echo?
The 48-Hour Echo encourages you to look back at recent activity when symptoms worsen rather than considering only what you have done that day. This is particularly relevant to post-exertional malaise, where symptom worsening can be delayed by hours or days after activity.
What is Aevum's 50% Rule?
The 50% Rule is Aevum's own planning framework for deliberately keeping some perceived capacity in reserve rather than using everything you feel capable of doing at once. It is intended to encourage conservative pacing and reduce the tendency to push through.
It is not a universal clinical rule, so it should be adapted to your individual circumstances and professional medical advice.
What is the Hard Reset Protocol?
The Hard Reset Protocol gives you a pre-planned response for particularly difficult days or symptom flares, so you have something simple to refer to without having to make as many decisions when your energy or concentration is limited.
What comes after the 60-day Starter Planner?
Aevum's 90-Day Maintenance Pacing Planner is designed as the next step. The Starter Planner focuses on understanding and mapping your baseline; the Maintenance Planner uses a more condensed format to help you continue applying those principles over a longer period.
Is this planner a medical treatment?
No. Aevum describes its planners as organisational tools for personal management. They do not diagnose or treat ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, POTS, chronic pain or any other condition and should not replace advice or treatment from a qualified healthcare professional.
